NEWS AND NOTES

OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE HELD AT 7:00 P.M. ON TUESDAY, September 21, 2010. This is the last meeting before the
September 25 and 26 GTARMC Rock and Mineral Show. Please come and sign up to volunteer and take some signs to put
up around the area. The 5 minute program will feature John Matz. The main program will be another fun "show and tell" type
program titled, "Bring Your Favorite Fossils". Bring one, two or a few fossils to show off and tell about how and where
you found or purchased them. These are always fun events.

SOME UPCOMING CLUB MEETING HIGHLIGHTS.... The October 19 meeting will feature Tom Fordyce on club rock shop procedures and
the long program will be Warren Baumann, Geologist.

The 2010 Copper Country Mineral Retreat was held August 8 - 14....
Nest year's event will be held August 7 - 13, 2011. The event website promises more information in December.

A field trip was taken to the LaFarge Quarry in Alpena on Saturday, June 12, 2010. Some nice fossils of many types were collected. We will feature some specimens from this trip and
encourage others to bring their favorite fossils, as the main program at the September 21 meeting.

Ken Schug and Tom Fordyce have been teaching cabochon classes. Check with Education Coordinator, Dutch Zonderman about getting in one of these classes that will start again in the fall.
The cost is $15.00. Remember, you must be a member of the club to participate in these or other classes.

Are you interested in sharing your rock and mineral knowledge or skill? We get a few requests each year, to share information or skills with various groups.
Several members have had the opportunity to share their love of the hobby. Contact Lauren Vaughn with your area of expertise and availability schedule.

If you have an idea for a club field trip, let one of the club officers know the details and we can see if it can become a club reality.
